Japan, 1972 – This single-image recording device was a leap forward in the manual control of aperture, focus and shutter speed. The added (wholly mechanical)features contributed to the heaviness of this particular model, leading to it becoming a favorite among photojournalists looking for a functional, single lens reflex camera/bludgeon. The 35 mm format range-finding , focal plane shutter camera allowed its users to, through the use of advanced, practical metering, capture otherwise featureless existences. This particular model was a welcome respite from the daily, tedious interactions with spouses and other family members who wished to detail the efficacy and potential purchase of davenport slipcovers. Drawbacks included a tendency for the shutter mechanism to occasionally jam. Benefits included using said jams to retreat to a silent, darkened room to troubleshoot.
