J.C. Penney T505 Portable TV

This table top device was manufactured in Japan by the J C Penney Corporation in the late 70’s, a decade that saw the streamlining of micro component manufacturing. The 5” screen creates a monochromatic display system that is only limited by persistence of the phosphor after being struck by directed ray of electrons.
JC Penney was a full line department store that catered to rust-belt communities throughout the United states from 1960 to 1983, when the company discontinued sales of appliances, hardware and outdoor equipment. This brought to an end the practice of going to the local mall to purchase a recliner, slippers and a television. This reality was lost on many members of the older generation who expected the broad range of consumer goods to continue in perpetuity, throughout the universe until the end of time.
